6th October to 10th October
Raise a glass to reducing your carbon footprint!

This autumn the first “Green” wines will arrive in London. CTMV Fair Wind Wine ltd in association with Sud de France, is the first sustainable transport company to sail exclusive French wines of the South of France to London using green energy.

How? –The Kathleen & May (108 year old, three mast tall ship) will sail from France and berth at the St. Katharine’s Dock, London.

When? – From Monday, 6th Ooctober to Friday ,10th October - From 10.30 am – to 1.30pm. (The wine makers will be on board including Sir John Hegarty, to introduce their wines).

Why? – Because tackling climate change and reducing carbon emissions is one of the biggest challenges we face today. By offering great wines at competitive prices, people will be free to act in a greener way while enjoying great wines.

All the wines on board have all been transported to London by green energy transport (by sail), each bottle will have produced 77% less carbon emissions compared with normal freight shipping and will be labelled – “carried by sailing ship, a better deal for the planet”. Each case of wine will be fitted with RFID (radio frequency identification) from eProvenance to accurately record and monitor the temperature of each bottle of wine during transportation.

Frederic Albert, President of Fair Wind Wine said “Our company has found a modern innovative solution to reduce Co2 emissions, by looking to the past-traditional shipping routes and by chartering traditional ships. In January 2009 we will start construction of the first in our fleet of modern, streamlined tall ships complete with modern technology to enable faster sailing times. With oil prices at an all time high, our company will be able to ship goods at a competitive rate using sailing ships. The fine premium wines will be travelling by sea like the old days. We have chosen the best premium wines in the region, but they have also been made in a sustainable agriculture way, with respect to the land”.

In Ireland, Gilbeys of Ireland (part of the Diageo group) and O’Briens Fine Wine received their first historic shipment of wines to Dublin in July. CTMV Fair Wind Wine ltd are also delighted to announce the opening of their wine route to Canada – operating monthly carrying 5,000 cases per month to Montreal, Quebec commencing early 2009. Also in 2009 the company plans to open routes to Bristol, Copenhagen and Sweden.
